A Record-Breaking Sale: Two 10-Cent Comic Books Sell for Million

A Record-Breaking Sale: Two 10-Cent Comic Books Sell for $13 Million

February 5, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom Entertainment

Dallas, Texas – A private sale orchestrated by Heritage Auctions, in collaboration with SemperFi Comics, has resulted in one of the largest comic book transactions ever recorded. The sale involved a Batman No. 1 CGC 9.4, the highest-graded known copy, which sold for $6 million, and the second highest-graded copy of Superman No. 1, a CGC 8.5 Mile High pedigree copy, for $7 million.

A Historic Transaction

The sale follows a record-setting $9.12 million auction of Superman No. 1 CGC 9.0 in November. Heritage Consignment Director Nathan Howerton recognised an opportunity to sell two historic comics owned by a longtime client through a private transaction. Howerton described the process as more than a transaction, but a chance to help friends by placing incredible pieces of history in a new home.

Did You Know? The Batman No. 1 CGC 9.4 is considered to exist at the “summit of scarcity” and features the debut of both the Joker, and Catwoman.

Jordan Seymour of SemperFi Comics, a Marine Corps veteran, played a key role in connecting the seller with the ultimate buyer, leveraging his network of dealers, collectors, and investors. The Batman No. 1 sale resets the record for the most expensive Batman comic ever sold, exceeding the previous record by nearly threefold.

Shifting Market Dynamics

The Superman No. 1 copy sold is a “Mile High pedigree” example, representing the gold standard for Golden Age comic collecting. Seymour believes the sale indicates a “transformational era” in comic collecting, driven by extreme rarity, global demand, and sophisticated buyers. He stated that these books are no longer simply nostalgic artifacts, but tangible pieces of world culture.

Expert Insight: The increasing interest from high-net-worth collectors, family offices, and alternative-asset investors suggests a maturation of the collectibles market and a recognition of the enduring cultural significance of superhero mythology.

The buyer has chosen to remain anonymous. Heritage Auctions, the largest fine art and collectibles auction house in the United States, facilitated the sale. The company maintains offices across the globe and boasts the highest online traffic and dollar volume of any auction house, with over 2,000,000 registered bidder-members.
