Angios Institute Opens New Vascular Surgery Training & Care Center in Caracas
Caracas, Venezuela recently saw the inauguration of a new building for the Angios Instituto Vascular, located in the Chuao urbanization. The facility will provide specialized medical care and serve as the headquarters for the Vascular Surgery Postgraduate Unit.
Expanding Medical Education and Care
The opening ceremony included a blessing led by priest Néstor Briceño and the traditional ribbon-cutting, utilizing the clinic’s blue and red colours. Dr. Tomás Alberti, a cardiovascular surgeon, led the event and noted the Vascular Surgery Postgraduate Unit was initially established in 2004. The unit currently accommodates doctors pursuing specialization in various areas of vascular surgery.
A Dual Focus on Treatment and Training
Dr. Alberti emphasized Angios’ commitment to a structure that is both clinical and educational. He explained that these two areas are intrinsically linked and mutually supportive in the development of medical professionals. The new building’s facilities are specifically designed to support postgraduate education in Vascular Surgery.
The new building features state-of-the-art clinical and academic spaces, including consultation rooms, conference halls and a modern auditorium. At the heart of the learning environment is the Biblioteca Josep Lanes, housing a carefully selected collection of scientific resources.
Honoring a Mentor
Dr. Alberti shared that the library is named in honor of Josep Lanes, one of his former professors, who currently resides in Miami. Dr. Alberti was a student of Professor Lanes during his postgraduate studies in General Surgery at the Hospital Universitario de Caracas.
The inauguration was attended by prominent specialists in the field, including Dr. Hugo Navas, president of the Venezuelan Society of Phlebology. Dr. Navas commended Dr. Alberti’s perseverance, stating, “It is admirable that despite this country’s situation, Dr. Tomás Alberti continues to move forward. He has been an example and encouragement for the following generations.”
Dr. Tomás Alberti, (@dr.tomas.alberti), graduated from the Universidad del Zulia in 1988 and completed specialties in cardiovascular and endovascular surgery – the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting veins, arteries, and lymphatic vessels. He is also specialized in Angiology and Vascular Surgery.
A toast, with beverages and appetizers, was provided by sommelier David Hernández. The event concluded with Dr. Alberti presenting diplomas to graduates: Luis Tablero, Carlos César Rengifo, Wilfredo Álvarez, and Luis Gamero received diplomas in advanced wound care, while Joselín Mendoza was awarded a specialist diploma in Vascular Surgery.
