Black Midi’s Cameron Picton Announces Debut Album with New Band ‘My New Band Believe’
Former Black Midi member Cameron Picton has unveiled his new musical project, My New Band Believe, with the release of their debut single, ‘Numerology’. The band is preparing to release a self-titled debut album on April 10 via Rough Trade Records.
A New Chapter Following Black Midi
Picton initially launched My New Band Believe in February 2025 with the track ‘Lecture 25’. ‘Numerology’ is a non-album single, but will be available on a bonus 10″ version and a limited-edition Deluxe CD. The song is described as swirling between dance and psychedelic elements, built around a frenetic acoustic guitar.
The Album’s Genesis
The forthcoming album originated from a unique and challenging experience for Picton. While battling a sudden illness in a Chinese hotel room, he experienced vivid “weird imagery” and text that ultimately formed the basis for the songs. Picton will lead the band as its “unreliable but charismatic narrator,” supported by musicians Kiran Leonard, Caius Williams, Steve Noble, and Andrew Cheetham.
The album is notable for its primarily acoustic instrumentation, utilizing minimal reverb and electronic effects, alongside a full string section. The tracklist includes ‘Target Practice’, ‘In the Blink of an Eye’, ‘Heart of Darkness’, ‘Love Story’, ‘Pearls’, ‘Opposite Teacher’, ‘Actress’, and ‘One Night’.
Tour Dates and Previous Success
My New Band Believe will embark on their first headline tour beginning April 28 in Glasgow, with stops in Leeds, Manchester, London, Bristol, and Cambridge, concluding on May 5 in Oxford. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. The band will also perform at the Rewire Festival in The Hague, Netherlands on April 11.
This new venture follows the confirmation last summer that Black Midi was entering an “indefinite” period of inactivity. Formed in 2017, Black Midi quickly gained recognition for their experimental art rock, even being hailed as “the best band in London” by Shame in 2018.
