Elda Dog Training: Responsible Pet Ownership Program & Workshops
Residents of Elda, Spain and their canine companions may soon benefit from a new initiative designed to strengthen the bond between people and their pets. The Elda City Council’s Animal Protection Department, in collaboration with Jovcan, is launching a program focused on responsible pet ownership and improved animal behavior.
A Focus on Understanding
The program, titled ‘Educación anina, entiende cómo aprende tu perro’ (Animal Education, Understand How Your Dog Learns), will offer sessions covering basic dog training, understanding canine behavior, and improving the relationship between owners and their dogs. Practical activities will also be included, concentrating on socialization, proper leash handling, and preventing problematic behaviors.
Regular Sessions Planned
These sessions are scheduled to take place on the last Friday of each month, beginning February 27th at 17:00 hours at Casa Colorá. The program aims to provide ongoing support and guidance to dog owners, offering practical resources for daily life both at home and in public spaces.
Cristina Rodríguez, the City Council’s Animal Protection representative, emphasized the council’s commitment to animal welfare and coexistence within the community. She stated that the initiative provides “useful tools to families to improve the relationship with their animals and promote responsible ownership.”
Rodríguez further highlighted the importance of understanding a dog’s behavior and learning effective communication methods. She believes this is “fundamental to prevent conflicts, improve their quality of life and reinforce the bond between people, and animals.”
What’s Next?
If the program proves successful, the City Council may consider expanding the offerings to include specialized workshops or advanced training courses. It is also possible that the program could be extended to other neighborhoods within Elda. A sustained level of participation could lead to the program becoming a permanent fixture of the city’s animal welfare services.
