Healthy lifestyle can prevent 50% of cancer cases: Experts | Patna News
A recent health program highlighted the significant impact lifestyle choices have on cancer risk. Experts suggest that up to half of all cancer cases could be preventable through modifications to daily habits.
The Link Between Lifestyle and Cancer Prevention
During a cancer awareness program held at Paras HMRI in Patna on Saturday, Dr. A A Hai stated that approximately 15 lakh people are affected by cancer annually. He emphasized that prevention is achievable through changes in lifestyle, specifically maintaining a healthy weight, staying physically active, improving diet and avoiding alcohol consumption.
Dr. Hai also stressed the importance of avoiding tobacco in any form, limiting processed and high-fat foods, and prioritizing adequate sleep for long-term health. The program was inaugurated by Padmashri Vimal Kumar Jain, alongside Dr. Hai, Radheshyam Bansal, Abhay Prakash, DIG, and zonal director Anil Kumar.
The Power of Shared Experiences
The event, titled ‘Ummeed Ke Sitare,’ provided a platform for cancer survivors and their families to share their experiences. Participants noted that a lack of awareness and delays in seeking medical attention often lead to later-stage diagnoses. Many recounted failing to recognise early symptoms, underscoring the need for increased public awareness and prompt medical consultation.
As part of the program, Paras HMRI honored 25 cancer survivors, recognizing their journeys and resilience.
