Lindenfels: Kids Transform Town into Wild West at Burgfest

Lindenfels: Kids Transform Town into Wild West at Burgfest

January 24, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom Sports

Lindenfels, Germany, recently hosted a unique sporting event – a “Wild West” themed afternoon for children at the annual Lindenfels Burgfest (Castle Festival). Over 180 children, aged three and up, participated in a series of skill-based challenges designed to evoke the spirit of the American frontier.

A Town Transformed

The Games

The event, organized by Simone Spielmann and her team, featured eight distinct stations. Participants received a “run sheet” from Spielmann at the Burgschänke (castle tavern) and collected a stamp at each completed station. Successful completion of all eight stations earned children a small gift from a prize box.

Skill and Strategy

The challenges were diverse, testing a range of abilities. Children attempted to retrieve toy spiders from water-filled buckets, demonstrated accuracy in horseshoe throwing, and tested their aim with darts (for older children) and picture-based targets (for younger participants). A “gold panning” station, utilizing sand-filled tubs, allowed children to unearth and keep “nuggets.”

Craft and Agility

Creativity was also encouraged, with Stefan Lauterbach supervising the creation of necklaces and armbands – deemed essential accessories for aspiring “Indians.” Agility was tested through a lassoing station, where children attempted to pull toy horses on rocking bases, and a stealth challenge involving navigating a web of bells and musical instruments. One young participant from Gadernheim cleverly bypassed the obstacle by crawling underneath.

Did You Know? The event was free for all participants, removing financial barriers to entry for families.
Expert Insight: The success of this event highlights the power of immersive, themed activities in engaging young people in physical and mental challenges. By framing skill-building as play, organizers fostered a positive and encouraging environment.

Beyond the Run Sheet

Demand proved high, with run sheets quickly exhausted. However, children continued to participate in the activities, and also engaged in informal climbing and swinging on a young tree near the Burgschänke, which “endured the climbers with quiet and composure.”
