Lou Gramm, Foreigner’s original vocalist, boosts rock legends’ Las Vegas Strip return
A cornerstone vocalist of the rock era is set to return to the Las Vegas stage alongside his former band in a unique orchestral production. Lou Gramm, the original lead singer of Foreigner, will appear as “host” for two performances of “Foreigner: The Hits Orchestral — Celebrating 50 Years Live in Vegas” at The Venetian Theatre on March 6 and 7.
A New Sound for a Classic Band
The series, running from March 6-14, represents an adventurous departure for Foreigner, augmenting their signature sound with a 20-member symphony orchestra. The setlist will feature iconic hits including “I Want To Know What Love Is,” “Cold As Ice,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” “Hot Blooded,” and, of course, “Juke Box Hero.”
Arrangements by a Grammy-Nominated Virtuoso
The orchestral arrangements for these performances have been crafted by Dave Eggar, a Juilliard-trained cello virtuoso and seven-time Grammy nominee. He collaborated with Chuck Palmer, the band’s rock/orchestral percussionist, who will also conduct the performances. Eggar’s credits include work with artists such as Coldplay, Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, and Beyoncé.
Gramm’s appearance will include introducing the band and participating in a book-signing event for VIP ticket holders. His memoirs, titled “Juke Box Hero,” will be available for purchase and personalized signing prior to both performances. This experience will be offered to 20 guests each night, including a meet-and-greet and a photo opportunity.
A Remarkable Return
While Gramm has not performed with Foreigner during their previous engagements at The Venetian, his return marks a significant moment for fans. The 75-year-old singer’s journey back to the stage is particularly noteworthy, having overcome a life-threatening health challenge – the removal of a non-cancerous brain tumor in 1997 – and returning to touring within a year. He departed from Foreigner in 2003 to pursue a solo career.
Currently, Luis Maldonado serves as Foreigner’s lead vocalist, having officially assumed the role in May after joining the band in 2021. Kelly Hansen previously held the position during the band’s earlier Venetian shows. Gramm expressed his excitement about the event, calling it “a personal thrill” and praising Dave Eggar’s orchestral arrangements.
