Mary Patrux: NBA Journalist Reveals Breast Cancer Recurrence
A familiar face to basketball fans in France, journalist Mary Patrux publicly shared her experience with a recurrence of breast cancer this past Sunday. Her initial diagnosis occurred in 2020.
A Public Revelation
“There are things one would prefer to keep to oneself. But today I want to share. To inform. And above all, perhaps, to help,” Patrux wrote on social media. She revealed she completed 16 rounds of chemotherapy three weeks ago after learning of the cancer’s return just before traveling to Wimbledon.
Patrux, 47, also discussed her use of a cooling cap during chemotherapy to minimize hair loss. “Yes, I lost hair. But I go to restaurants without people staring at me like I’m sick. I worked. I attended parent-teacher conferences without revisiting this ordeal because, frankly, it bores me. I did television without a blow-dry. And for me, that makes a big difference,” she detailed, also expressing gratitude for the support she has received.
The Power of Support
Patrux highlighted the significant support she’s received, stating, “Female solidarity is immense. I’ve felt it more strongly than ever since the recurrence.” She is married and a mother of two children.
The cancer, according to Patrux, remained localized. While chemotherapy was deemed necessary this time, she expressed a desire to put the ordeal behind her “once and for all.”
