New Vienna School: Modern Gymnasium with Green Spaces Planned for Floridsdorf
Floridsdorf, Vienna, is set to receive a new Allgemeinbildende Höhere Schule (AHS), or general secondary school, near the Jedlersdorf train station. Construction is planned to begin in 2028, with designs originating from an architectural firm based in Salzburg.
Modern Learning Environment Planned
The project, with a total investment of 33 million Euro, aims to create a gymnasium that meets the demands of future learning and work environments. The new school will accommodate 28 classes, with 16 dedicated to the lower level featuring open learning zones and after-school care, and 12 for the upper level.
The upper level will feature “subject-specific departments” with designated home bases. The plans also include two standard sports halls and versatile outdoor spaces. MEGATABS architekten, a firm from Salzburg, won the architectural competition for the project.
Sustainable Design and Accessibility
The building will be constructed as a hybrid timber-frame structure, combining wood, concrete, and steel elements for faster construction. Facades and roofs will be greened, and a photovoltaic system is planned for energy efficiency. The school will be publicly accessible via both the S-Bahn and tram line 26.
The school will also provide bicycle parking for over 220 bikes and scooter parking for 100 scooters.
