No. 25 Men’s Tennis Defeats South Florida, 5-2
MALIBU, Calif. — No. 25 Pepperdine men’s tennis defeated South Florida 5-2 Tuesday afternoon at Ralphs-Straus Tennis centre. The Waves secured the doubles point and then won four of six singles matches, with all six singles matches completed in two sets.
Waves Dominate in Doubles Play
Pepperdine established an early lead by winning the doubles point. Maxi Homberg and Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida earned their first doubles win together at the No. 3 position, defeating Timeo Gaillard and Stepan Mruzek 6-2. The duo of Edward Winter and Hugh Winter, the reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week, clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 position. The Winter brothers are now 3-0 together in doubles this season.
Singles Matches Seal the Victory
Following the doubles success, Pepperdine continued to perform well in singles play. Aleksa Pisaric secured his first singles victory of the season at flight five, winning 6-4, 6-0. Hugh Winter then extended Pepperdine’s lead to 3-1 with a straight-set win on court six (6-2, 6-4).
Edward Winter clinched the match with a straight-set victory over No. 28 Hugo Car at the No. 1 position (6-4, 6-4). Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida completed the scoring for Pepperdine with a straight-set win at the No. 4 position (7-5, 6-3). USF earned wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions.

According to Director of Tennis Adam Schaechterle, the match became a “full dogfight” an hour into the singles competition. He praised the team’s toughness and ability to “keep digging and separated in the big moments.”
