A Life Rooted in Petaluma
Born on February 17, 1952, at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Randall’s early life was closely tied to the Petaluma community. His family moved to a property on Sunny Slope Ave. In 1953, and he attended local schools – McNear School, Petaluma Junior High, and Petaluma High School. Childhood summers were spent at nearby McNear Park, where he developed skills in both baseball and archery.
From Early Jobs to a Passion for Music
Randall’s work history included positions at Purity Market, which was later replaced by Petaluma Market, and as a cheesemaker and delivery driver for Marin French Cheese Company in Nicasio. While initially intending to pursue dentistry at UC Berkeley, he ultimately earned a degree in psychology.
Music became Randall’s central passion and profession. Introduced to piano by his mother, Dorothy, he performed in various capacities, including with local bands, backing an Elvis impersonator, and in solo engagements. He also served as an organist for four churches – St. James, St. Vincent, Elim Lutheran, and St. John Episcopal – and provided musical accompaniment for weddings and funerals.
Community and Legacy
Randall was known for his sense of humor, generosity, and kindness. He enjoyed cooking and bringing people together through music, sharing his knowledge with others. He is survived by his former wife, Maria, his daughter Maranda, his brother Gregory, his companion Sharon Piezzi, and a long-time friend, Richard Albertoni. He also leaves behind friends from the A.A. Fellowship. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Dorothy.
A memorial service and celebration of life were held at Rooster Run Golf Course in Petaluma on December 18, 2021. Donations in Randall’s memory may be made to Hospice of Petaluma.
