Seoul Film Creation Space: Affordable Support for Filmmakers & Series Development
Seoul City is currently accepting applications for creators to occupy the ‘Film Creation Space (DMC Advanced Industry Center),’ a hub designed to support film and video production. The initiative, announced on February 2, 2026, offers significant financial support to selected creators, covering all costs except a monthly management fee of approximately 150,000 won.
Supporting the Creative Process
The program prioritizes providing a stable environment for creators to focus on planning and development, with the goal of facilitating actual production. The Film Creation Space has, since its opening in 2008, been involved in the planning and development of 321 films that have gone on to be released, including titles like ‘Pawn,’ ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7,’ and ‘Yonder.’
Application Details and Space Overview
The application period runs from February 2nd to February 26th. Successful applicants will have access to the space from April for one year, until March of the following year. The city plans to select a total of 78 creators: 58 comprised of film directors and producers (18 studios for directors and 40 for producers), and 20 screenwriters (20 individual studios for writers).
The Film Creation Space encompasses approximately 2400 pyeong (approximately 7,900 square metres) and includes 18 director studios, 40 producer studios, 42 writer studios (20 individual, 12 open, and 10 separate), and 5 office spaces, totaling 117 rooms.
Comprehensive Support System
In addition to the subsidized space, creators will receive support including creative workshops, script monitoring, psychological counseling, mentoring, funding for planning and development, and networking opportunities. The space also offers workshops based on crime cases in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the National Forensic Service.
Seoul City is also integrating education and mentoring on utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the creative process, with plans to offer one to two AI-focused workshops and practical sessions this year.
Looking Ahead
According to Seoul City Economic Policy Director Lee Su-yeon, the Film Creation Space is a practical hub that supports creators from the planning stages through production and success. The city intends to continue providing specialized support for the planning and development of various video contents, including films and series dramas, with the hope of replicating the success of films like ‘Yonder.’
