The Utah high school wrestling season is reaching its climax, with state championships scheduled over the next two weeks across multiple classifications. Competition begins this Wednesday with the 3A brackets at Snow College South in Richfield, and will continue through February 14th, culminating in events at Orem and Richfield.

Northern Utah Teams Prepare for State Competition

A significant contingent of wrestlers from Northern Utah are poised to compete for state titles. Ben Lomond, Ogden, and Morgan High Schools are sending a combined 40 athletes to the 3A championships at Snow College. Next week, Box Elder High School will send an equally impressive 40 wrestlers to Utah Valley University for the 5A tournament.

  • Feb. 4-5: 3A boys, girls (Richfield)
  • Feb. 6-7: 2A boys (Richfield)
  • Feb. 11-12: 6A boys, girls (Orem)
  • Feb. 12-13: 5A boys, girls (Orem)
  • Feb. 13-14: 4A boys, girls (Orem)
  • Feb. 14: 1A boys; 1A/2A girls (Richfield)

Several compelling narratives are emerging as the championships approach. Layton High School’s wrestling programme is aiming for an unprecedented fourth consecutive team title, led by four Division I signees: Noah Bull (150), Elijah Hawes (190), Austin Paris (157), and Gavin Regis (165). These seniors have collectively amassed nearly 200 wins this season, with Bull, Hawes, and Regis each exceeding 40 individual victories. Paris is also seeking his fourth individual state championship.

Roy High School’s four senior wrestlers – Kaleb Blackner (126), Maximo Quintana (138), Carter Riley (285), and Kaden Herrera (132) – are making their final state appearance together. Freshman Avery Colvin leads the Roy girls’ team with a 33-3 record.

Morgan High School is sending over 25 wrestlers to Richfield, highlighted by senior Chase Allen (175) with a 40-6 record and junior Callie Toone (130) with a 22-8 record and a 95% bonus win rate. The Trojan boys’ team has accumulated 458 wins this season.

Seven wrestlers from Ben Lomond High School will compete in Richfield, including Ryan Church (120), Ivan Pina (157), and Daniel Salazar (175). Ogden High School will be represented by Ethan Wardell (165) and Parker Morris (132).
