Strange Days Comics relocates storefront, remains in Uptown
Port Townsend, Washington’s Strange Days Comics and Games began 2026 with a significant move, relocating from its previous home within Aldrich’s Grocery to a standalone storefront at 1007 Lawrence St. On January 1st. The move, facilitated by a volunteer conga line of approximately 50 people between 10 a.m. And 11:45 a.m., marks a new chapter for the local business.
A Growing Business Finds a New Home
Since the fall of 2023, Strange Days had operated from a 100-square-foot space on the upper mezzanine of Aldrich’s Grocery. While appreciative of their time there, owners Kristin and Rick Myers recognized the need for more space to accommodate their growing inventory and customer base. Kristin Myers stated, “Aldrich’s made it possible for Strange Days to exist in the first place.”
The new storefront, formerly occupied by Badd Habit Screen Printing, provides 1,700 square feet of space. This allows for expanded inventory displays and a dedicated gaming area with at least half a dozen cafeteria-sized tables. The upper floor will serve as both inventory storage and a gaming space.
Community and Creativity at the Forefront
The owners emphasized their commitment to remaining within the Uptown neighborhood, valuing the foot traffic generated by community events like the weekly farmers markets. Kristin Myers noted the importance of this proximity, stating, “That extra bit of tourist foot-traffic has always made a difference.”
Beyond increased space, the new location offers greater flexibility for Strange Days’ gaming events. Previously constrained by Aldrich’s operating hours, the store can now accommodate players with varying schedules, including those who couldn’t attend events starting at 5 p.m. Kristin Myers explained, “We have working parents who weren’t able to show up right at 5 p.m. But now, You can start at 6 p.m. And simply extend our gaming sessions later.”
Strange Days is also incorporating local art into its new space, commissioning a mural for the stairway connecting the two floors. Artists Carolyn Woods, Trillian Spencer, and Nate Boyles are contributing to the mural, which will feature a fantasy theme described as “epic depth and dimensions, with entire cities on top of whales, floating in outer space.”
Looking Ahead
The owners envision Strange Days becoming a community “hangout” for people of all ages. They aim to create a welcoming environment where customers can connect over shared interests. They also plan to install an electronic kiosk for trading Magic: The Gathering cards. The store’s core principle, according to the owners, is kindness: “the only requirement to be here is to be kind.”
