A Legacy of Support
The Importance of Regional Arts
Theatre Bay Area’s impact extends beyond simply showcasing performances. For five decades, it has actively championed the performing arts throughout the Bay Area by funding artists, advocating for the arts at a grassroots level, providing professional development, and supporting theatre companies and individual artists. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie acknowledged this contribution, stating that the organization has been “a backbone of our region’s performing arts community.”
Connective Tissue for the Arts
Margo Hall, Artistic Director of Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, describes Theatre Bay Area as “connective tissue” for the Bay Area theatre scene. She emphasizes its role in bringing together artists, leaders, and organizations, fostering a supportive environment for learning, advocacy, and collaborative problem-solving. This network spans the entire region, from TheatreWorks and San Jose Stage in the South Bay to Marin Theatre Company in the North Bay, and many others.
