UDP and University of Cambridge Launch Global History Honor Diploma
Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) and the University of Cambridge’s Global History Lab have launched the Diploma de Honor en Global History, marking the first time this academic program has been hosted in Chile. The hybrid initiative, directed by academic Jeremy Adelman, connects UDP students with peers from more than 20 international institutions to analyze global processes that shaped the contemporary world.
Why is the Global History Lab coming to Chile?
Alejandro Arturo Martínez, director general of General Studies, Archives, and Culture, stated the program aims to further internationalize the formative experience for UDP students. According to Martínez, this partnership allows students to engage with global academics and peer groups outside of Chile.

Martínez described this as the first of several planned diplomas with international universities of prestige. This strategy may lead to expanded academic networks and increased cross-border collaboration for the student body.
How does the academic structure work?
Constanza Dalla Porta, a program academic and Princeton University PhD in History, said the diploma consists of three specific units. These include “History of the World,” “Qualitative Research Methods (QRM),” and “Global History Lab: Case Studies and Research.”
The curriculum is scheduled to begin in the second semester of 2026. Dalla Porta explained that the program provides a panoramic view of historical conflicts and periods, such as the Black Plague in Europe, commercial expansions, colonization, and the conquest of America.
What follows this partnership?
The university is likely to develop additional diplomas with other high-ranking international institutions, according to Martínez. These future programs could further integrate UDP students into global academic circuits.

Interested applicants have until July 5 to apply for the program. The university may use the results of this first Chilean iteration to refine the delivery of subsequent international diplomas.
