February 13, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom Sports

Tumwater, Washington – The Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Washington, is set to host the 2027 Northwest Open Invitational. This decision brings the Pacific Northwest Section PGA’s oldest major championship back to a venue that has proven popular with players and organizers alike.

A Return to Familiar Territory

Frank Talarico, CEO of the Pacific Northwest Section PGA, emphasized the significance of the event, stating the Northwest Open is “a cornerstone of our Section’s competitive legacy.” He highlighted Wine Valley’s ability to challenge players while embodying the hospitality of the region. The return to Wine Valley is intended to both honor the championship’s history and elevate its future.

A Championship with Deep Roots

The Northwest Open Invitational has a long and storied past, originating in 1901 as the Pacific Coast Championship. Initially contested at the Del Monte Golf Course at Pebble Beach from 1901 to 1904, the championship moved to Waverley Country Club in 1905 and was subsequently renamed the Pacific Northwest Open Championship. Over the years, the event has been held at numerous prestigious courses throughout Oregon and Washington.

Did You Know? The Northwest Open Invitational began in 1901 as the Pacific Coast Championship, initially played at Pebble Beach’s Del Monte Golf Course.

Wine Valley Golf Club previously hosted the Northwest Open Invitational consecutively from 2010 through 2021. It has also been the annual home of the PNW PGA Senior Players Championship since 2014. The Dan Hixson-designed course, which opened in 2009, has received accolades, including recognition from Golfweek as one of the “Top Three Golf Courses to Play in Washington” and inclusion on their “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” list in 2019.

Beyond the Green

The selection of Wine Valley extends beyond the quality of the course. The Walla Walla Valley has become a nationally recognised wine destination, boasting over 100 wineries and more than 2,800 acres of vineyards. Tyler Sweet, PGA, Director of Golf at Wine Valley, believes combining the tournament with the region’s wine and culinary offerings will create a memorable event.
