Winter Fruit and Vegetable Program Available During Winter Months

Winter Fruit and Vegetable Program Available During Winter Months

February 10, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom Health

The Chickasaw Nation is actively working to ensure continued access to fresh produce for its citizens throughout the winter months. The Winter Fruit and Vegetable programme aims to bridge the gap in nutritional resources between growing seasons, building upon the existing Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition programme.

Expanding Access to Nutritious Food

The programme, which will provide fruits and vegetables through March, is available to Chickasaw seniors aged 55 and older. Eligibility extends to members of the Chickasaw Warrior Society and Chickasaw citizens with a 100% disability, broadening the reach of this important health initiative.

Streamlined Benefit Delivery

For those already participating in the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition programme, receiving the summer electronic benefit transaction (EBT) card simplifies access. Individuals who previously received the summer EBT card do not need to reapply to receive winter benefits.

Did You Know? The programme offers participants fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable fruits and vegetables.

Distribution of these vital resources will occur at five conveniently located nutrition centres in Ada, Ardmore, Duncan, Purcell, and Tishomingo.

Looking Ahead

The application deadline for the Winter Fruit and Vegetable programme is February 28, 2026. Interested individuals can apply online at ChickasawNationHealth.net/FarmersMarket or by phone at (580) 436-7255, with a toll-free option available at (855) 572-3433.

Expert Insight: Providing consistent access to fruits and vegetables, even during the winter, demonstrates a proactive approach to public health. This type of programme could contribute to improved dietary habits and overall well-being within the community.

If the programme continues to be well-received, it is likely to be offered again in future years. Continued participation and positive feedback may lead to expansions of eligibility or the types of produce offered. A possible next step could be evaluating the programme’s impact on participant health outcomes.
