A Couple of Cuckoos Manga Enters Final Arc – News
Fans of the romantic comedy manga A Couple of Cuckoos, also known as Kakkō no Iinazuke, are nearing the end of the story. The series, which launched in January 2020 and spawned a two-season television anime adaptation, will begin its final arc with the release of this week’s issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine.
A Complicated Premise
The story centers around Nagi Umino, a 16-year-old high school student who discovers he was switched at birth. His life takes a turn when he meets Erika Amano, who proposes a fake relationship to avoid marriage. However, fate intervenes when Nagi learns his birth parents have arranged a marriage for him with the daughter they raised…who is, unexpectedly, Erika herself.
From Manga to Anime
Created by Miki Yoshikawa, A Couple of Cuckoos first appeared in Weekly Shōnen Magazine published by Kodansha. As of January 16, 31 compiled volumes of the manga have been published by Kodansha. A novel adaptation of the manga also exists, with five volumes released between 2021 and July 2022.
The manga was adapted into a television anime that premiered in April 2022 on TV Asahi and its affiliates, airing for two consecutive “cours” – quarters of the year – without interruption. Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Japan, providing both subtitled and English-dubbed versions.
Second Season and Future Possibilities
A second season of the anime premiered in July 2025, again streamed by Crunchyroll with both subtitled and English-dubbed options. With the manga entering its final arc, the anime adaptation may eventually conclude as well.
