Barry Can’t Swim Announces ‘Late Night Tales’ Compilation & New Single ‘Chala’

January 26, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom Entertainment

Scottish electronic producer and DJ, Joshua Mainnie, known as Barry Can’t Swim, is set to release a curated compilation as part of the acclaimed ‘Late Night Tales’ series on March 6. The release is accompanied by a new single, ‘Chala (My Soul Is On A Loop).’

A Legacy of Curation

‘Late Night Tales’ began in 2001 and has since featured a diverse roster of artists selecting and mixing tracks, including Four Tet, Fatboy Slim, Belle & Sebastian, MGMT, Metronomy, Franz Ferdinand, Jon Hopkins, and Hot Chip. Mainnie’s contribution marks the first full entry in the series in five years and coincides with the 25th anniversary of ‘Late Night Tales.’

Did You Know? The ‘Late Night Tales’ series has included over twenty artists since its launch in 2001.

A Personal Touch

Mainnie’s mix will incorporate his own music, featuring both ‘Chala (My Soul Is On A Loop)’ and ‘Sometimes I Feel So Alone.’ He described being “absolutely buzzing” and “over the moon” when asked to contribute, recognizing the series’ consistent collaboration with “really great artists.”

He further explained that he maintains a Spotify playlist, dubbed “Barry Can’t Curate,” for electronic music he enjoys but might not typically play in DJ sets. He views ‘Late Night Tales’ as a similar platform – a space to share beloved music outside the constraints of a dancefloor environment.

The Sound of a Night Out

The compilation aims to capture the emotional arc of a classic night out. It spans a range of sounds, from the classic house of Lance DeSardi’s ‘Power Of Suggestion’ and a remix of Factory Floor by Daniel Avery, to the more delicate and reflective tones of This Mortal Coil’s ‘The Lacemaker.’

Expert Insight: The ‘Late Night Tales’ series has established itself as a respected platform for artists to showcase their broader musical tastes and influences, moving beyond the confines of their typical performance or production styles. This curated approach offers listeners a unique window into an artist’s personal sonic landscape.

Barry Can’t Swim’s recent activity includes the release of his second studio album, ‘Loner’ last year, with singles ‘Still Riding,’ ‘The Person You’d Like To Be,’ ‘Different,’ and ‘Kimpton.’ He also curated a lineup for a day at All Points East 2025, featuring Orbital, Avalon Emerson, The Blessed Madonna, Confidence Man, and Shygirl.
