Bodø Airport: Runway Closed Due to Snow – Now Reopened with Delays

February 20, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom News

Bad weather conditions led to a temporary closure of the runway at Bodø Airport on Friday evening. The disruption impacted air travel to and from the Norwegian city, causing delays for passengers.

Runway Closure and Reopening

Avinor, the airport operator, closed the runway at 17:23 local time, citing unfavorable weather. Cathrine Framholt, Avinor’s communications manager, explained that the conditions made it “not possible to keep it in good enough condition.” Activity resumed on the runway at 19:24, according to Flightradar data.

Did You Know? Winds in Bodø reached over 18 meters per second on Friday before decreasing.

Impact on Flights

Several flights were able to land around 19:05, and departures followed shortly after, at 19:10. Framholt stated that while traffic had resumed, delays were expected, and passengers should consult their airlines for the latest information. Widerøe airline was particularly affected by the closure, and its passengers experienced disruptions.

Satha Sritharan, a press contact for Widerøe, stated that the airline was “working to find solutions and apologize for the delays,” advising passengers to arrive as scheduled unless otherwise notified.

Weather Conditions

Meteorologist Leonidas Tsopouridis from the Meteorological Institute indicated that the worst of the weather had passed. Approximately 10 centimeters of snow fell in the preceding hour, but the system was moving northward. While the possibility of further showers existed overnight, they were not anticipated to cause significant additional problems.

Expert Insight: The rapid reopening of the runway following a temporary closure demonstrates the importance of proactive weather monitoring and quick response protocols in maintaining air travel operations, even under challenging conditions.
