Ciné-campus: Oscar-Nominated & Critically Acclaimed Films Screening February – March 2026
Ciné-campus is presenting a series of critically acclaimed films from Québec and abroad, some of which have received Golden Globe nominations or are contenders for Oscars. These films offer compelling narratives and are available for viewing on the big screen.
Les furies, a Sports Comedy by Mélanie Charbonneau
Showing on February 10th and 11th in original French, Les furies is the first Québecois sports comedy centered on female characters. Directed by Mélanie Charbonneau, based on a screenplay by Gabrielle Côté, the film has already earned over one million dollars at the box office.
The film features Gabrielle Côté, Anne-Élisabeth Bossé, France Castel, Juliette Gosselin, and Debbie Lynch-White. Admission will be an exceptional 5$ for all audiences during its presentation as part of Fest’hiver.
La bugonia, a Psychological Thriller by Yorgos Lanthimos
The latest satirical suspense film from Yorgos Lanthimos, director of Poor Things, The Favourite, and Kinds of Kindness, has been nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Emma Stone), and Best Original Screenplay.
La bugonia will be shown on February 17th and 18th in original English with French subtitles. The film tells the story of two young men obsessed with conspiracy theories who kidnap the CEO of a large company, believing she is an alien intent on destroying Earth.
Famille à louer, a Dramatic Comedy by Hikari
The debut feature from Japanese director Hikari, Famille à louer, explores the world of “rental family” services, a phenomenon reflecting contemporary Japanese society.
Showing February 24th and 25th in its original English version, Rental Family, with French subtitles, this touching dramatic comedy about loneliness and human connection stars Brendan Fraser, an Oscar laureate for his performance in The Whale.
On sera heureux, a Drama by Léa Pool
The most recent film from Québecois director Léa Pool (Hôtel Silence, La passion d’Augustine, and Emporte-moi), On sera heureux, will be shown on March 17th and 18th.
This sensitive drama about homosexual immigration will be presented during Racism Prevention Week, in collaboration with the Office for Respect, the Student Association of the UdeM campus, and the General Student Association for Continuing Education.
Soleils Atikamekw, a Docudrama by Chloé Leriche
Soleils Atikamekw, a poignant film about the resilience and solidarity of the Atikamekw community of Manawan, will be shown for free at Ciné-campus on March 24th in original Atikamekw and French with French subtitles.
The screening of this moving documentary about grief, injustice, and memory will be followed by a discussion with Joséphine Bacon. Reservations are strongly recommended for this unique event, which follows the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Ms. Bacon in recognition of her exceptional contribution to Indigenous culture in Québec.
