Eliquis for Children: New Dosages & Reimbursement Approved

Eliquis for Children: New Dosages & Reimbursement Approved

January 27, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom Health

New options are now available for treating and preventing venous thromboembolic events (VTEV) in children and adolescents, ranging in age from 28 days to under 18 years. These advancements involve both expanded reimbursement for existing dosages and the introduction of four new pediatric dosages of Eliquis.

Expanded Access to Eliquis for Young Patients

Since appearing in the Journal officiel on October 7, 2025, the new pediatric dosages – 0.15mg, 0.5mg, 1.5mg, and 2mg – are now reimbursable for the treatment and prevention of VTEV. Previously, reimbursement for Eliquis dosages of 2.5mg and 5mg was extended to include pediatric indications.

Did You Know? The population expected to benefit from these new pediatric dosages is estimated to be between 200 and 700 patients.

Available Formulations

  • Eliquis 0.15mg, granules in an openable capsule, box of 28 capsules (CIP: 34009 303 019 7 5)
  • Eliquis 0.5mg, coated granules in a sachet, box of 28 sachets (CIP: 34009 303 019 8 2)
  • Eliquis 1.5mg, coated granules in a sachet, box of 28 sachets (CIP: 34009 303 019 9 9)
  • Eliquis 2mg, coated granules in a sachet, box of 28 sachets (CIP: 34009 303 020 0 2)

The four new dosages have a manufacturer’s price (excluding tax) of €23.80 and a public price (including all taxes) of €27.73, excluding dispensing fees. The Haute Autorité de la Santé’s transparency commission determined that the medication provides an important medical service, but without any improvement over existing services (ASMR V).

Expert Insight: Expanding treatment options for pediatric VTEV is a significant step, as children require tailored medication approaches due to their developing physiology. The availability of these new dosages, and their subsequent reimbursement, could improve adherence and outcomes for this vulnerable patient population.

Eliquis currently ranks among the top 10 most expensive medications for the Assurance maladie.

What’s Next for Eliquis?

It is anticipated that Eliquis may become available as a generic medication in 2026. This could potentially lower costs and increase access to the drug, though the timing and impact of generic availability remain uncertain.
