Herman Dune: Odysseus Album & Dijon Concert – Folk Inspiration
The latest album from Herman Dune emerged from a period of unexpected displacement. While based in California, the folk artist found himself stranded in Montréal due to administrative issues, separated from his wife and three cats. During this time, he regularly visited the grave of Leonard Cohen on Mount Royal, a practice that sparked the creative process behind the album.
A Folk Offering Echoing Musical Giants
Released initially in June, the album was re-released in November in a stripped-down guitar and voice format. It’s described as a work that resonates with the styles of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Johnny Cash. Herman Dune is scheduled to perform at La Vapeur on February 17th, with Dear Pola opening the show.
From Trio to Solo Act
Herman Dune began as a trio in Paris during the 1990s, comprised of brothers David-Ivar and André Herman Dune, alongside Omé. Their debut album, Turn Off The Lights, arrived in 2000, followed by fourteen subsequent albums.
In recent years, David-Ivar has continued the Herman Dune project as a solo endeavor. Since 2015, he has been based in San Pedro, Los Angeles, where he also operates his own record label, Santa Cruz Records. His latest album, Odysseus, is presented as a journey through the artist’s life experiences.
The performance at La Vapeur in Dijon on February 17th will offer audiences a chance to experience this latest work live, with tickets ranging from 6 to 16.50€. More information and reservations are available at lavapeur.com.
