Kevin Griffin Launches AI Music Platform SoundBreak
A new platform aiming to reshape the intersection of artificial intelligence and music creation has launched, spearheaded by Better Than Ezra frontman Kevin Griffin. SoundBreak, developed in partnership with Soundverse, offers a novel approach to co-writing songs using AI models based on the styles of established artists.
A New Model for AI and Music
SoundBreak distinguishes itself by focusing on artist compensation, and rights. The platform allows users to collaborate with officially licensed AI songwriting models created from the work of their favorite musicians. Crucially, artists receive both rights and financial compensation for the use of their AI models, as well as a share of subscription revenue generated by fan engagement.
At its launch, SoundBreak features AI models developed in collaboration with a diverse group of musicians, including Jaren Johnston of The Cadillac Three, Michael Fitzpatrick of Fitz and the Tantrums, David Ryan Harris, Sam Hollander, and Max Frost, in addition to Kevin Griffin himself. Each artist worked directly with SoundBreak’s engineering team to ensure the AI models accurately reflect their individual songwriting styles, avoiding generic imitations.
Artist-Centric Approach
Griffin emphasizes that SoundBreak is “AI in ARTIST.” He believes the platform addresses a critical gap in the rapidly evolving AI music industry, where songwriters and artists often find themselves excluded from the conversation. The goal, according to Griffin, is to establish a new standard where technology enhances creativity and artists are fairly compensated for their intellectual property.
