LG H&H Unveils AI-Powered Non-Steroidal Solution for Female Hair Loss

LG H&H Unveils AI-Powered Non-Steroidal Solution for Female Hair Loss

June 4, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom Health

LG Household & Health Care has introduced a new approach to managing female hair loss by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its research. The company presented these findings on May 30 at the World Congress for Hair Research (WCHR) held at COEX in Seoul.

The research focuses on moving away from traditional steroid-based or hormone-centric treatments. Instead, the team has explored non-steroidal solutions to improve scalp and hair health.

The Role of AI in Identifying New Targets

To identify effective treatments, researchers used AI simulations to analyze approximately 420,000 candidate substances. They integrated gene expression information and lipid metabolism data specifically linked to female hair loss.

This process led to the identification of Estrogen Receptor alpha (ERα) as a primary target. The team discovered that a non-steroidal substance derived from Vitamin A could activate this receptor.

According to lead researcher Kim Jae-yoon, this substance may help promote hair follicle activity and improve the environment for hair growth. Clinical evaluations have already confirmed an improvement in hair thickness.

Did You Know? AI simulation technology allowed the research team to compress the candidate substance search process—which typically takes over 22 months—into a single day.

Expanding the Scope of Hair Research

A significant aspect of this study is the expansion of the research scope. While previous hair loss studies primarily focused on dermal papilla cells, this new approach includes hair follicle stem cells.

By activating estrogen receptors, the researchers suggest it may be possible to influence both dermal papilla cells and hair follicle stem cells, establishing a new strategy for hair loss management.

the company revealed a new care material called “Rhamsydil.” This AI-discovered substance was shown in tissue experiments to reduce the expression of DKK1 (Dickkopf-1), a protein that induces the hair regression phase.

Expert Insight: Samantha Carter notes that shifting the focus toward hair follicle stem cells and non-steroidal pathways represents a critical pivot in wellness science. By targeting the regression phase via DKK1 reduction, the approach attempts to maintain the growth cycle longer rather than simply treating symptoms.

The Future of Scalp Longevity

LG Household & Health Care is positioning this research as part of a broader transition toward becoming a science-based beauty and wellness company. They are now focusing on a concept termed “Scalp Longevity.”

This long-term strategy aims to use big data and AI to uncover the mechanisms behind scalp aging. The goal is to develop solutions that maintain scalp health over a lifetime.

CTO Kang Nae-gyu stated that this research confirms new possibilities for female hair loss care. The company may continue to develop next-generation scalp and hair care solutions through ongoing collaboration with the LG AI Research Institute.

Frequently Asked Questions

What was the primary target identified by the AI simulation?
The AI simulations identified Estrogen Receptor alpha (ERα) as the primary target for managing female hair loss.

What is Rhamsydil and how does it work?
Rhamsydil is an AI-discovered material that reduces the expression of DKK1 (Dickkopf-1), which is the protein responsible for triggering the hair regression phase.

How does this research differ from previous hair loss studies?
Unlike previous research that focused mainly on dermal papilla cells, this study expands the scope to include hair follicle stem cells and utilizes non-steroidal, Vitamin A-derived substances.
