Mohamed Ghazali: From Nador to Nancy, a Moroccan-European Success Story

Mohamed Ghazali: From Nador to Nancy, a Moroccan-European Success Story

January 24, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom News

From his childhood in Nador, Morocco, to a seat on the municipal council of Nancy, France, Mohamed Ghazali has forged a unique path, leveraging his dual cultural background to build bridges between Morocco and Europe.

Early Life and Education

Born in Morocco, Ghazali describes his upbringing as taking place within a “warm and value-based family environment.” He spent his formative years in Nador for primary school, Berkane for collège, and Oujda for lycée. In 1988-1989, he moved to France to pursue higher education, driven by a strong desire for success and new experiences.

Ghazali recalls that his initial years in France were marked by homesickness, missing his parents, family, the Moroccan sun, and the kindness of its people. However, this distance, he says, reinforced his “determination to move forward with as much discipline and perseverance as possible.”

Did You Know? Mohamed Ghazali completed his baccalauréat scientifique in 1988-1989 before moving to France for university.

Entrepreneurship and Civic Engagement

After earning a degree in pharmacy, Ghazali expanded his education to include law, economics, and international commerce. Simultaneously, he entered the business world, focusing on women’s fashion. “This passion naturally led me to create my own brand, ‘Côté Sud,’” he stated.

“Côté Sud” was a women’s ready-to-wear line characterized by a modern and elegant design, founded in the early 2000s and sold in 2005. The brand was widely marketed throughout France and Europe, according to Ghazali.

Ghazali’s ambitions extended beyond personal success. He became involved in local economic life, joining the regional organization of merchants in the early 2000s. This involvement led him to serve as president of the local branch, then the regional presidency, before joining the board of directors and the national bureau.

Building Franco-Moroccan Ties

Believing in the importance of community work to strengthen ties between Morocco and Europe, Ghazali founded the Rencontres France-Maroc association in Strasbourg, which he currently presides over. He also led the association Initiative France-Maroc, with the goal of “encouraging investment in Morocco, supporting projects, and organizing economic, scientific, cultural and sporting seminars to highlight the potential of the kingdom.”

Through these associations, Ghazali aims “to strengthen the bridges between scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship, to structure Euro-African projects with a strong territorial impact, and to continue organizing thematic meetings bringing together all stakeholders.” He believes “innovation is the strongest way to bring the two continents closer together, provided it is thought, built and carried jointly.”

Expert Insight: Ghazali’s focus on innovation as a bridge between Europe and Africa highlights the potential for collaborative growth and development, recognizing that shared effort is crucial for success.

Sport, Politics, and Future Plans

Ghazali’s interests also extend to sports, where he served as president of the International Franco-Moroccan Judo Academy. He formed partnerships with the Royal Moroccan Judo and Martial Arts Federation and the French Judo Federation to promote the discipline in Morocco and enhance its international presence.

Driven by a desire to strengthen relations between Europe and Africa, Ghazali founded the ‘Maison de l’Europe Afrique’ in Nancy, which has become a reference point for economic, industrial, scientific, cultural, and sporting development. He is also a delegate for the Eugène Delacroix district in the Grand Est region.

In 2019, Ghazali entered local politics by founding the Nancy’nov party, which later merged with the Greens to form an alliance with the Socialist Party during elections, aiming to highlight the position of the Moroccan community, and foreign communities in general.

In 2020, this path led him to be elected to the municipality of Nancy, becoming a republican official in charge of international affairs, a role he continues to fulfill. He stated that this experience has deepened his reflection on how to contribute to the development of his country of origin and give back what it has given him.

Ghazali acknowledges that the path of a politician of Moroccan origin in France is not easy, but he believes perseverance, seriousness, and hard work are the true keys to success. He says he would repeat the experience without hesitation.

He indicated to Yabiladi that he is “preparing a political commitment in Morocco,” without revealing details.
