N88 & A47 Road Closures: Saint-Chamond, Rive-de-Gier & Givors – Feb 2025

February 1, 2026 discoverhiddenusacom News

Motorists traveling in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France should anticipate significant disruptions on the N88 and A47 highways throughout the first week of February. Roadwork and maintenance are scheduled, resulting in lane closures and full highway closures during nighttime hours. These measures are primarily focused around Saint-Chamond, Rive-de-Gier, and Givors.

N88 Saint-Chamond/La Varizelle Disruptions

Ongoing work related to a new interchange is causing a permanent closure of the left lane on the N88 in the direction of Saint-Étienne from Lyon. This lane restriction is in effect until February 5th. The N88/A47 will experience complete closures in both directions between 9 PM and 5 AM from Monday, February 2nd, through Wednesday, February 4th. These closures will affect traffic between Exits 16 (Saint-Chamond centre) and 17 (La Varizelle), with a detour in place for affected drivers.

Did You Know? The work on the N88 is connected to the construction of a new interchange scheduled to be put into service this summer.

A47 Rive-de-Gier Closures

The A47 will be closed in the Saint-Étienne/Lyon direction between Exits 12 (Lorette) and 11 (Rive-de-Gier/La Madeleine) on the nights of February 2nd and 3rd, and again on the nights of February 4th and 5th, from 9 PM to 5 AM. A detour will be available via Exit 11, allowing drivers to rejoin the A47 after Rive-de-Gier at Exit 12. The left lane will be closed in the Lyon/Saint-Étienne direction between Exits 11 and 12 during the same nighttime hours on February 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

Maintenance on A47 Near Givors and Saint-Chamond

On Wednesday, February 4th, the right lane of the A47 will be closed in the Lyon/Saint-Étienne direction from 9 AM to 2 PM for radar maintenance. Also on Wednesday, February 4th, the right lane will be closed in the Lyon/Saint-Étienne direction from 9 AM to 4 PM for ground surveys.

Expert Insight: These coordinated closures suggest a planned maintenance schedule designed to minimize long-term disruption, even if they create immediate challenges for commuters. The timing of many closures to nighttime hours indicates an effort to reduce peak-hour traffic impacts.
