PHOTOS: Bronx BP Gibson hosts Black History Month luncheon
The Bronx recently celebrated a century of Black History Month with an annual event hosted by Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson at Eastwood Manor. The celebration, themed “100 Years of Black Excellence: Standing in Legacy and Longevity,” recognized contributions within the community and commemorated the nationwide observance.
Honoring Bronx Leaders
This year’s program included live musical performances and community reflections. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams delivered the keynote address, and PIX 11 News Reporter James Ford served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
Recognizing Achievement
Six individuals were honored at the event. Dwayne Johnson, of Johnson’s BBQ, was among those recognized. Lorraine Rohlsen-Alexander of Tennis Lady Co-op City also received honors, as did Jacqueline Bergland, Choir Director at Celia Criz High School.
Further honorees included Dr. Charles J. Gibbs, President of Metropolitan College of NY, and Kiwana Yates, a student at Cardinal Hayes High School, who was recognized as the Youth Honoree. Dr. Johnnie Goff, Founder and President of JADE Multi Family Circle Center, received the Aurelia Greene award.
