Skybound brings back G.I. Joe’s most iconic storytelling, this time for the villains • AIPT
A new wave of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Silent Missions one-shots is on the horizon, this time shifting the focus to the villainous organization, Cobra. Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with Hasbro, will release five standalone, dialogue-free issues throughout April 2026. This event builds upon the legacy of wordless storytelling established within the G.I. JOE universe.
A Legacy of Silent Storytelling
The original “Silent Interlude” in G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 is recognized for its innovative approach to comic book narrative, demonstrating the power of visual storytelling. Skybound revisited this concept in April 2025 with a month-long Silent Missions event, highlighting G.I. Joe heroes like Beach Head, Jinx, Spirit, Roadblock, and Duke. The success of that event, as noted by Skybound Editorial Director Alex Antone, directly led to this new iteration focusing on Cobra’s operatives.
Cobra Takes Center Stage
The series will kick off on April 1, 2026, with Baroness #1, a standalone thriller penned by Jöelle Jones and Declan Shalvey. The story centers on the Baroness’s efforts to protect vital Cobra intelligence, potentially from both G.I. JOE and Destro. Following this, Crimson Guard #1, from Gabriel Hardman, arrives on April 8, depicting the final exam for Cobra’s elite guards, where failure during an assault on Cobra Commander is not an option.
April 15 will see the release of Zartan #1, crafted by Pat Olliffe and Tom DeFalco, featuring the master of disguise navigating a dangerous undercover mission against Cobra Commander, Major Bludd, and G.I. JOE. The following week, on April 22, Copperhead #1, with art by Howard Porter, will deliver a brutal, high-speed swamp race where survival is uncertain.
The event culminates with Firefly #1 on April 29, written and drawn by Jorge Fornés. This issue sends Cobra’s saboteur on a mission that escalates into a clash with the Oktober Guard.
Each issue will be available in comic shops and on digital platforms for $3.99.
