Sleep Return With Tour, Comic Book, and First New Song in Eight Years
Stoner-metal band Sleep has released its first new music in eight years, titled “Have Spacesuit Will Travel,” via Third Man. According to a press release, the group has updated its lineup with guitarist Bubba Dupree and drummer Dale Crover and will start a North American tour on September 8.
Why has the Sleep lineup changed?
Al Cisneros remains the band’s singer, bassist, and lead songwriter. However, co-founder and guitarist Matt Pike has left the group, making the 2018 album The Sciences his final studio contribution. Bubba Dupree, known for his work with Maryland hardcore punk band Void, takes Pike’s place on guitar.

Dale Crover of the Melvins has stepped in as the drummer. He fills the vacancy left by Jason Roeder, who has returned to Neurosis following that band’s reunion. A press release stated that Al Cisneros “wishes Matt the best on his earth bound maneuvers” as the band moves forward to create new songs and albums.
What is the Sleep Comic Book?
The band has launched Sleep Comic Book Issue #1, written by Al Cisneros and illustrated by Arik Roper and Dave Kloc. The story follows the Marijuanaut on an adventure to Planet Iommia, where the character encounters The Weedian and learns about the planet’s reverential practices.
Fans can purchase a standard edition of the comic or a limited-edition bundle. The bundle includes the comic book, a signed bookplate, a full cover poster, designed rolling papers, and the “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” flexi disc.
When is the Sleep North American tour?
Sleep begins its fall tour on September 8 in San Diego. The tour will visit most major cities across the United States and Canada, including a performance at the Levitation music festival in Austin.
The tour concludes on November 17 in Washington, D.C. According to the announcement, the band is returning to the road to support their new music and the launch of the comic series.
