DURHAM, N.C. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team (3-1) secured a 4-1 victory over James Madison University (JMU) on Saturday morning in Durham, North Carolina, rebounding after a loss to No. 7 Duke on Friday night. The Wildcats demonstrated strength in singles play, winning all six matches.
Doubles Setback, Singles Surge
JMU gained an early advantage by winning the doubles point. Marina Fuduric and Julia Zhu lost their match 6-2, while Zoe Hammond and Ellie Myers fell 6-4. A third doubles match between Asuncion Jadue, Reese Sager, and JMU opponents was unfinished when JMU clinched the point.
Kentucky quickly reversed their fortunes in singles competition. Ellie Myers initiated the comeback with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kantor, tying the match at 1-1. Julia Zhu followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Savejic, giving Kentucky the lead.
Clinched Victory and Continued Success
Reese Sager extended the Wildcats’ lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Avidan. Zoe Hammond then clinched the match for Kentucky with a decisive 6-4, 6-3 victory against Munteanu.
Coaches allowed matches on courts three and four to continue to a 10-point tiebreaker. Asuncion Jadue and Elena Molla both secured wins, completing a 6-1 victory in singles for Kentucky.
Kentucky (3-1) finished their weekend in Durham with a 1-1 record. The team is scheduled to play at Purdue on February 8.
