Altadena to Palisades Relay Raises Funds for Local Nonprofits
A 50-kilometer relay event, “Altadena to the Palisades II,” is set to begin Saturday morning, with 100% of ticket proceeds earmarked for four nonprofit organizations. The event, organized by the Silver Lake Track Club, aims to raise funds and awareness for groups supporting communities impacted by recent disasters and addressing critical needs.
Community Support Drives Unique Fundraising Event
The relay will start at 8 a.m. At Good neighbour Bar in Altadena and conclude at Will Rogers Beach in Pacific Palisades. Participants have the option to complete the full 50 kilometers individually, as part of a five-person team, by bicycle, or by running specific segments of the course. Registration costs $55.20 and is available through Eventbrite.
Focus on Local Impact
Two of the four beneficiary organizations have a direct connection to Altadena. My Tribe Rise, a Black-led nonprofit, has served over 4,100 individuals through its Survivors Power Luncheons Program since the Eaton Fire, providing disaster recovery plans, food, housing assistance, and direct cash grants. Greenline Housing Foundation, founded in July 2020 by Pasadena resident Jasmin Shupper, secured a $500,000 grant from The Pasadena Foundation to purchase the first fire-damaged lot in Altadena for a community land bank.
The remaining beneficiaries are the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, established in 1951, and the Malibu Search & Rescue Team, operating since 1977. Both are volunteer organizations dedicated to search and rescue operations.
Building on Previous Success
This is the second year of the “Altadena to the Palisades” relay. The inaugural event, held on May 10, 2025, raised over $50,000. Organizers are hoping to surpass that amount this year. While Altadena Mountain Rescue is the only returning beneficiary from the previous year, the 2025 event also supported Altadena Public Library, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, and the Palisades Fire Domestic Workers Fund.
The Silver Lake Track Club, founded by Howie Goldklang, emphasizes that the event is “not a race, but a celebratory expression of movement.” The club also hosts four free weekly run meetups in Los Angeles and has donated nearly 1,000 pairs of running shoes to youth through a partnership with ASICS, which is sponsoring aid stations and commemorative T-shirts for the relay.
Donations can also be made by texting “REBUILDLA” to 33-555 via the Givebutter platform or through the Eventbrite page. As of early February, the Givebutter page had raised $14,216 from 40 supporters toward a $15,000 sub-goal.
