Fox Wins Bundesliga Rights in Mexico & Central America for Five Years
Fox has secured a five-year agreement for the broadcasting rights to the German Bundesliga soccer league across Mexico and Central America. This deal expands Fox’s already significant portfolio of soccer coverage in the region and marks a shift in broadcasting partners for the Bundesliga.
Expanding Reach in the Americas
The agreement will see Fox broadcast 309 Bundesliga games each season, along with the German Super Cup and the promotion/relegation play-offs. Games will be available across Fox’s linear channels, the Fox One streaming service, and Tubi, a free ad-supported streaming platform. The coverage area includes Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.
A Strategic Partnership
Fox replaces Sky Mexico as the Bundesliga’s rightsholder in these markets. This move is part of a broader strategy by the Bundesliga to increase its presence in the Americas. The league has a 17-year partnership with Relevent to manage media rights and develop regional partnerships. Last year, the Bundesliga opened a content studio in Guadalajara to create original content tailored for Spanish-speaking audiences.
Fox’s existing soccer holdings in Mexico include Liga MX, Liga MX Femenil, the Uefa Champions League, and the Premier League. The company also recently acquired Caliente TV, further strengthening its position in the Mexican sports market.
Collaboration and Content
Bundesliga Americas will collaborate with Fox to produce supporting content for the broadcasts. Robin Austermann, Bundesliga Americas executive vice president, stated that combining the Guadalajara studio with Fox’s platform will allow the Bundesliga to “speak directly to Mexican fans every day: in their language, in their football culture.”
Luis Maldonado, executive director of acquisitions and marketing at Fox Latin America, added that the agreement reinforces Fox’s commitment to offering a strong international football portfolio.
