Frankfurt’s Queer Film History: “Pink Moments” Event Series Launches
Frankfurt is set to explore its queer cinematic history with the launch of a new event series, “Pink Moments,” beginning this Saturday, February 21, 2026. The series aims to illuminate the LGBTQ+ community’s contributions to and experiences within film in the city.
A Focus on Queer Film History
The “Pink Moments” event series is the result of work by the Frankfurter Arbeitskreis queere Stadtgeschichte, an autonomous initiative dedicated to researching and highlighting queer urban history. The group includes city guide Christian Setzepfandt and film curator Karola Gramann, a co-founder of Kinothek Asta Nielsen.
The inaugural event, scheduled for 19:00 on February 21st with doors opening at 18:00, will take place in the Sonnemann Saal of the Historical Museum. It will feature films and discussions with prominent figures including filmmakers Eva Heldmann and Angelika Levi, and former head of “Orfeos-Erben,” Antje Witte.
Honoring a Legacy
The series is dedicated to the memory of Rosa von Praunheim, and in April, it is planned to continue with a retrospective of his films and other notable works. The event, originally planned for the queer cultural centre, will now be held at the Historical Museum’s Sonnemann Saal.
Admission to the February 21st event is free, with donations welcomed.
