Lot: Educational Show Raises Awareness of Hearing Risks for Young People
A unique educational concert aimed at raising awareness about the risks of hearing damage took place at Les Docks, captivating a young audience in the Lot region of France on Tuesday, January 20th. The event, designed to be both informative and engaging, reached 360 students and young adults.
A Multi-faceted Approach to Hearing Health
The concert was part of “Peace & Lobe,” a national initiative by AGI-SON, an association uniting over 60 organizations within the performing arts. In the Occitanie region, the program is spearheaded by Octopus, the Fédération des Musiques Actuelles en Occitanie, with local support from Ulysse Maison d’Artistes. Magali Liarsou, cultural action manager at Les Docks, organized the two sessions for students from Collège d’Olt (Puy-l’Evêque) and Collège Olivier de Magny (Cahors), Lycées Clément Marot and Saint-Etienne (Cahors), Lycée des Territoires (Le Montat), the Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat du Lot, and the IME Château de Blazac in Vire-sur-Lot.
Reaching Diverse Audiences
The event wasn’t limited to traditional school groups. Residents of the Foyer de Vie du Mas de Latour – from Catus, Cazals, and Lalbenque – who have intellectual disabilities, also attended. This inclusive approach ensured a broad range of individuals received the important message about protecting their hearing.
The performance featured Lombre, a singer-songwriter blending Rap and Spoken word, accompanied by Florian Soulier on guitar, Camille Bigeault on drums, and Justine Larroque managing the sound. For an hour and a half, the group combined music with educational videos, illustrations, and interactive discussions.
Demystifying Sound and Prevention
Each musician contributed to the preventative message, grounding their insights in scientific studies and statistics. Florian Soulier discussed the history of amplified music, tracing its roots back to the development of the electric guitar in the 1930s. Camille Bigeault explained the fundamentals of sound, defining frequency (measured in Hertz) and intensity (measured in decibels). Justine Larroque detailed her role in sound engineering, highlighting its importance in concert dynamics.
Teachers and accompanying adults received a preparatory educational booklet to enhance the learning experience. Participants left with a greater understanding of how to protect their ears.
