The award serves as a benchmark for student-athletes who maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher while remaining active in their team’s competitive schedule. Of those recognised this year, 76 individuals achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, underscoring the high standard of excellence required to qualify.
Criteria for Excellence
To be eligible for this distinction, rowers must meet stringent academic and athletic benchmarks. Academically, students must be in their second through fifth year of eligibility and maintain a 3.50 GPA through the end of the fall semester. Athletically, candidates are required to have competed in at least 75% of their team’s spring races in an NCAA-eligible boat, or have represented their institution in an NCAA boat during a conference championship.

The Impact of Dual Commitment
Janet Raymer, CRCA Executive Director, emphasized that the award reflects the collective effort of athletes, coaches, faculty, and families. The discipline required to manage a full academic load alongside the physical output of collegiate rowing is significant. As these programmes continue to evolve, We see likely that the emphasis on holistic student development will remain a primary focus for collegiate rowing departments.
