Adani Group to Invest $100B in AI Data Centers Powered by Renewables
India’s Adani Group announced Monday a $100 billion investment by 2035 to build data centers powered by renewable energy, specifically designed for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. This commitment marks one of the largest private sector investments in the country’s digital infrastructure to date.
Building a Sovereign Digital Future
The initiative aims to establish a sovereign energy and computing infrastructure to support the expanding AI ecosystem within India. Adani Group anticipates this investment could catalyze an additional $150 billion in related investments, potentially creating a total AI ecosystem valued at $250 billion.
Expanding Data Center Capacity
Currently, AdaniConnex’s national data center capacity stands at 2 gigawatts (GW). This roadmap will increase that capacity to 5 GW across multiple campuses in India. The platform is designed to integrate renewable energy production, network resilience and high-density AI computing infrastructure within a unified architecture.
Strategic Partnerships and Renewable Energy Backbone
Adani Group is partnering with Google (Alphabet) to develop a multi-gigawatt AI data center campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Further campuses are under development in Noida, within the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. Collaborations with Microsoft are also underway on projects in Hyderabad, Telangana, and Pune, Maharashtra. Discussions are ongoing with other international technology companies to establish additional AI campuses.
The renewable energy foundation for these data centers will be built upon Adani Green Energy’s 30 GW Khavda project in Gujarat, with over 10 GW already operational. The group has separately committed an additional $55 billion to expand its renewable energy portfolio, including large-scale battery energy storage systems.
Focus on Data Sovereignty and Innovation
The data centers will feature advanced liquid cooling systems, energy-efficient designs, and dedicated capacity for Indian large language models and national data initiatives, supporting data sovereignty. A portion of the graphics processing unit (GPU) capacity will be reserved for Indian AI startups, research institutions, and deep tech innovators.
